The Walking Dead
Episode 604
Here's Not Here
Personal Review
We are now six seasons into The Walking Dead and we know very little of what Morgan Jonas's character has gone through. The last time we really got a glimpse of him was in Season 3 episode 12 titled "Clear" In that episode he had lost his mind. Gone a little bat shit crazy. We then see Morgan a few times throughout season 5. At the end of season 5 episode 16 he is reunited with Rick. The only real difference is, Rick and Morgan's roles kind of flip flop. When they come face to face with each other in the end of season 5, Rick seems to have gone off the deep end and Morgan is clam, cool and collected. "All life is precious" it might seem strange that all of a sudden that becomes Morgan's motto. What brought Morgan back from the deep end?
As one of the few characters from the first season to survive into the 6th, it’s no doubt that Morgan is an important character. The episode “Clear” which featured Morgan as a mentally compromised shell of a man was one of the best episodes from season 3. It was fascinating to see how a simple father turned into a killing machine. So, when he popped up as a peace loving, humanitarian, it seemed like quite the leap from the last time we saw him.“Here’s Not Here” begins with Morgan killing walkers and humans alike without so much as a second thought, simply because he feels he has to “clear” the world of everyone and everything.
It takes meeting Eastman, somebody who has also lost everyone and everything, and a lot of talk about peace for Morgan to consider that maybe living just to stab people in the throat is not the best way to spend the rest of his time alive. Eastman teaches Morgan Aikido. He helps transform Morgan into someone who wants to live, into someone who believes in peace. Unfortunately, Morgan goes from one extreme to the other. Instead of killing anything, he goes to a state of peace, where he refuses to kill any living creature, no matter the circumstances. This could lead to him being a sort of angel on Rick’s shoulder, begging him to remember his humanity. Can Morgan find a middle ground between relentless murder and the peaceful lifestyle.
The end of the episode we see that Morgan was telling this story to one of the wolves that attacked Alexandra. Morgan is keeping him tied up and locked up. But will that be enough. Will Morgan be able to do the same for this wolf that Eastman did for him, or will this back fire in Morgan's face and get people killed?
